The
SL 70 and Maestro Grinder Package Set - Espresso Machine will deliver perfect espresso, cappuccino,
lattes, café mochas and other coffee house drinks with ease. If you’re new
to making espresso drinks, consider the SL 70. It features a special
filter basket that ensures perfect espresso regardless of the grind of the
coffee beans. Use your own pre-ground coffee or prepackaged single serving
espresso pods. The large 1100 watt, 9 oz brass boiler, combined with a
quiet 19 bar pump, create powerful steam in no time for foaming milk to
make cappuccinos. Enjoy easy-to-use controls, cup warming feature, 3 liter
water tank, 19 BAR water pump, and space saving design.
The SL 70 has an
initial heat up time of just over two minutes. It brews a single shot of
espresso in 15-20 seconds, and a double shot in 20-25 seconds. You can
foam milk for an 8 oz. latte in 58 seconds, and a 12 oz. latte in 96
seconds. And don't forget to preheat your cups; the SL 70 transfers heat
from its boiler to the cup stacking surfaced on the top of the machine.
The SL 70 is a
semiautomatic espresso machine. This means you have complete control over
the brewing process. The SL 70 features only three switches and a
multifunction control knob. The first switch on the left side of the
control panel is the main power control. The middle switch turns the pump
on or off to control the flow of espresso. The third switch on the right
side of the control panel is for activating the steam mode. Lights
indicate when the boiler is at the proper temperature for either brewing
espresso, dispensing instant hot water, or steaming. To start the flow of
steam, simply turn the steam knob on the side of the machine.
The most popular drinks at the local
coffee bar include lattes, cappuccino, and café mochas. The Barista behind
the counter is able to froth milk quickly and consistently because their
espresso machine has a large boiler. The Solis SL70 too, has a large
boiler for a machine in its class allowing you to froth enough milk for
two standard cappuccinos in 40 seconds and the average
latte in 1.5 minutes. Many competing machines will take over two minutes
to do the same. The SL70 uses a stainless steel steam wand that swivels to
accommodate up to a 20 ounce frothing pitcher. The standard tip allows for
precise control over the volume and consistency of the foam and dispenses
hot water for Americanos or tea.
The port filter is the removable part of
your machine that holds the filter baskets during the brewing process. The
port filter is made of chrome plated brass and features a heavy duty
plastic handle. The handle is equipped with a retaining clip that prevents
the filter basket from inadvertently falling out of the port filter while
discarding the spent coffee grounds.
Solis included advanced
pressurized 53mm, stainless steel filter baskets (to hold the pre-ground
coffee), which make the production of espresso easy. They are designed so
that little or no attention has to be paid to the grind consistency of
your coffee beans. Regardless of the “grind and tamp” of the coffee
grounds, the espresso will come out perfect since these baskets insure
that the proper pressure is applied to grounds during extraction. Solis
SL70 espresso machines also accept non-pressurized filter baskets which
can be purchased from many online retailers or Solis.
The Solis SL70 includes a built in
coffee tamper. Although the special filter baskets all but eliminate the
need to tamp your coffee grounds, the built in tamper is necessary in
order to “level” the grounds prior to brewing. The tamper fits the filter
baskets perfectly, eliminating the need for you to buy a separate tamper.
Solis includes a special espresso pod
filter basket with all SL 70 semi automatic espresso machines. Espresso
pods are single serving, perfectly proportioned servings of ground coffee
that are encased in a round paper packet. Simply place an espresso pod in
the basket and insert the port filter into the machine. When you have
finished brewing espresso, remove the pod and discard.
The Solis SL Series machines have the
largest water reservoir of any home espresso machine. The large clear
plastic 3 liters capacity is ideal for entertaining since it holds enough
water to make coffee and espresso for the whole crowd. It is conveniently
located on the rear of the machine. It’s easy to see the water level and
determine if the tank needs refilling and then it’s easy to remove. The
reservoir features a special valve on the bottom that permits you to
remove it from the machine with water still in it.
Despite the fact the SL70 features
a powerful 19 BAR maximum rated water pump, it is by far one of the
quietest pump driven espresso machines on the market. The quality of Swiss
engineering and design are immediately apparent from the first moment you
use the espresso machine. While most pump driven espresso machines can
stop a conversation in its tracks, you can whisper and still be heard next
to this machine. The 19 BAR pump insures that you will have plenty of
pressure to adequately force water though the finely ground coffee, thus
resulting in an excellent espresso.
The Solis SL 70 features a cup warming
shelf on top of the machine. Using low radiant heat from the boiler, the
metal shelf takes the chill away from your espresso cups, thus allowing
freshly brewed espresso to stay warmer. Espresso is very susceptible to
temperature, so it’s essential to serve it in a warm cup. The shelf is
large enough to hold up to six standard espresso cups.
The large 9 ounce boiler is made of
durable brass for long life and good temperature stability. The heating
element is powered by 1100 watts which insures fast heating on initial
startup and fast recovery between brewing and steaming functions.
Despite the fact the Solis SL70 features
a powerful 19 BAR maximum rated vibration water pump, it is by far one of
the quietest pump driven semi automatic espresso machines. The quality of
Swiss engineering and design are immediately apparent from the first
moment you use the machine. While most pump driven espresso machines can
stop a conversation in its tracks, you can almost whisper and be heard
next to this machine. The 19 BAR pump insures that you will have plenty of
pressure to adequately force water though the finely ground coffee, thus
resulting in an excellent espresso.
The Solis SL70 comes with single shot
and double shot stainless filter baskets, espresso pod filter basket,
measuring spoon for ground coffee, detailed instructions, and espresso
machine cleaner.
Baratza Maestro Grinder -
The Maestro Conical Burr Grinder is one of
the most eye pleasing grinders on the market, but the beauty isn’t skin
deep. Inside is the heart of a great grinder that can grind coffee beans
for any style of coffee, whether it is an espresso machine, drip coffee
maker, or press pot. The Maestro was originally introduced in 2001 with
lots of innovative features. In March 2007, the Maestro was upgraded to
include increased range of adjustment, an innovative calibration system, a
new powerful DC motor and other improvements.
The Maestro uses the same 40 mm conical
burrs it has always used. Conical burr grinders are exceptional at
producing consistent grinds from very fine to coarse.
There are many coffee grinders on the
market. However, few have the ability to grind fine enough for a
professional espresso machine and coarse enough for a press pot. The
upgraded Maestro has 40 steps of adjustment, up from 18 steps. Choose the
perfect setting by turning the bean hopper to the desired position.
Commercial grinders have a calibration
system to ensure that the grinder will grind fine enough for espresso and
has the range to grind coarse enough for a press pot. Now this feature is
available in a grinder designed for home use. The grinders are calibrated
when they are manufactured to ensure an accurate range of grind. If
necessary the grinders can be user calibrated.
A 240 watt DC motor is replacing the
current AC motor. The DC motor is twice as powerful as the current motor
and turns slowly resulting in cool, quiet operation and permits long
grinding duty-cycles. The circuitry is equipped with an automatically
resetting, thermal cutoff switch.
The Maestro uses a combination of gear
and electronic speed reducers to slow the spinning of the burr to 450
RPM. This slow speed reduces heat, noise, and static generation in the
grinder. It also ensures that the beans feed smoothly into the burrs.
The Maestro is equipped with a uniquely
designed On/Off switch. You may rotate the switch clockwise or counter
clockwise from any position without damaging it.
Additional features include:
-Slow rotation insures extremely low static electricity issues
-Special gear reduction for slow rotation, ensuring the retention of the
aroma and flavor of the freshly ground beans.
-Large 5 oz ground-coffee bin as well as the ability to grind directly
into espresso porta-filters and drip coffee filters
-8 oz. Bean capacity
-A rotating timer switch provides automatically repeatable coffee powder
dosing.
-A momentary push-button switch, prominent on the nose of the grinder,
allows for precise custom coffee powder dosing.
-Ground coffee drops vertically into the tightly fitting coffee bin,
insuring dust free operation.
-Bin area is large enough to accommodate even commercial sized port
filters for grinding directly into them, without the bin.
-Dimensions: 5W x 14H x 6D in
